My Story
Hello everyone, I'm riding for Willen Hospice this year in memory of Ranjit Singh who was a community champion in Milton Keynes as well as being the Commercial Director of Willen Hospice.
Last September, the day before Ranjit officially started his role at Willen Hospice, he showed up at the start line of the 100-mile Willen Sportive to see me off. (Well, and others too!) He was there, not yet “official,” but already proudly stepping into his new role. His excitement, his sense of purpose, and his deep connection to the mission of Willen were clear from before he joined.
The last time I saw Ranjit was on his 52nd birthday. Just a few days before we lost him - that memory has stayed with me.
At his funeral, his daughter’s words that really struck a chord. She spoke so movingly about her father’s boundless energy, his drive, and his commitment to making a difference. Her tribute cemented an idea how I could honour his spirit.
And so, for this year's Willen sportive, I plan to ride in Ranjit’s memory: ride 100 + 52 miles the sportive distance plus one mile for every year of his life.
It’s a small gesture but one filled with meaning for me. It would be a stretch for me having not ridden that distance before, however it would be a privilege to ride those extra miles for someone who brought so much to the community.
Thank you so much for your support, together we can make a difference for Willen - now more than ever!
